A Chiropractic Insight

In Pathways we frequently cover the importance of informed, conscious choice relating to many aspects of health in pregnancy, birth and childhood, and we strive to free up the channels of communication so our readers can be more informed and make their choices accordingly.

The issue of freedom to choose goes beyond our human rights set forth in our constitution. It also surpasses our personal interest as chiropractors to uphold the existence of choices outside the parameters of medical health care. Freedom to choose is an essential human expression, one that can be likened to the unhindered expression of the body’s nervous system.

In science, we recognize that all systems, all functions, and all processes of the body are inherently controlled by the nervous system. From brain to body and back again, the nervous system serves as the conduit for the expression of life. In our bodies, when the nervous system’s expression is impaired, via vertebral subluxation, we are in a state chiropractors have termed, dis-ease. We are out of balance and our skewed physiology is restricted and impaired.  Current science is now confirming that the state of our physiology directly affects our physical, emotional, mental and social expression. In this light, freeing up the nervous system with the chiropractic adjustment affects all aspects of human life.

The nervous system is the doorway to everything we perceive in the world. Dr. Christopher Kent, chiropractic author, researcher and thought innovator says, “Everything we experience is processed through our nervous system. If our nervous system is not functioning to its optimal level, our perception of the world is distorted and our ability to respond appropriately is compromised. This not only affects our physical health, but also our emotional and psychological function as well.”

Chiropractors are most dedicated to this level of understanding that the nervous system provides the means to express ourselves freely. When our nervous systems are restricted, our freedom to express is impaired. So too, when our inalienable human rights are restricted, the potential of life’s expression is diminished.

Pathways Magazine is published by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, whose policy is based on informed consent: “The ICPA respects each individual’s responsibility to make informed, conscious choices in all aspects of their chosen healthcare.” By providing information, we are making an adjustment, freeing up the conversation on topics and ideas so our readers may feel empowered to exercise their sovereign rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
