Nutty Breakfast Bowl

What are your thoughts on grains? It seems that the general population and nutrition experts can’t make up their mind on what is best; to grain or not to grain. I think it comes down to how you feel when you eat them. Sometimes I personally enjoy a little bit here and there, but tend to get too full when eating them. Other times I try to avoid them as I feel like they are a “filler” I don’t need. One of the most grain-filled meal is breakfast. Many people tend to eat oats or some kind of porridge, cereal or granola with breakfast. Many of these options are filled with processed grains and sugar; no good. But what if we can have the satisfaction of a “porridge” or “cereal” without any grains, just pure protein? Would you try it? If so, you’ve come to the right place. This recipe is filled with seeds and nuts; no grains, no sugar, nada. Sometimes raw nuts bother some people, making it quite taxing on your digestive system. This is because the many toxic substances (known as enzyme inhibitors) inherently present in many raw nuts are significantly reduced if not completely eliminated when soaked. I personally notice a huge difference when eating raw or just lightly roasted nuts versus soaked ones. So enters the digestive friendly, paleo friendly Nutty Breakfast Bowl. Filled with all the good stuff and none of the filler. These ingredients were specifically chosen for their nutritional benefits. Both hemp hearts and flax seeds are filled with the essential omega-3 fatty acid; making this perfect for anyone who lacks that nutrient (ahem, everyone). Brazil nuts are packed with selenium, chia seeds with antioxidants, coconut flakes with fiber. Cinnamon adds anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants plus a delicious flavor without any sugar; the perfect fall spice. I love to top this with some sweet banana slices or other fruit that is in season like pears or figs. This recipe probably makes enough for 2 since it is quite rich with good fats and protein. I’ve made this in the early morning and enjoyed it a couple hours later, but you could let it sit over night if you’d like. And enjoy!
