Change is Possible
Arik’s New Beginning
Arik was a 24-week preemie who had a PDA and brain bleed. Due to these challenges at birth, he faced fine and gross motor issues, no speech, and ASD. According to Arik’s parents, his cognitive abilities were mostly that of a 9-to-12-month-old infant for the past two years. Although he’s 4 years old, he needed hand-over-hand assistance to do most daily tasks.
Arik’s mom recalls her struggles leading up to her first chiropractic visit, “As he’s gotten bigger, it has become so hard for him. It was very discouraging that all our efforts to help him progress weren’t really working. It felt like we hit a wall for the last two years. He’d been stuck with the same level of ability, so we were starting to feel defeated.”
“We’ve tried everything to help him along since he came home from the NICU at 6 months old. He’s had developmental intervention and continues to have OT, PI, SP, and ABA. He’s a part of the neonatal follow-up program from CHOP. They assigned all of these services since he was an infant and they’ve continued through to the private school he attends now with a one-to-one. We also sent him to private speech therapy for a year with no success.”
Literally one month after AJ’s first adjustment we started noticing changes. Oh, my husband and I were questioning each other wondering who unzipped AJ’s jacket? Or who helped him get in the tub? Who opened the back door? Arik’s progress has been incredible! It’s only been three months and his fine and gross motor skills have greatly improved. When reevaluated last month for his last neonatal follow-up, his skills jumped from 9 to 80 percent of his 2-year-old goals being met. His teachers and therapist from the summer program have all commented on how much progress he’s made socially, and he no longer needs a hand-over-hand assist for OT or PT.
The best part of all, my baby finally called me MOM!”
Austin’s Innate Potential
Austin was diagnosed with anxiety and some ADHD behaviors. He was most impacted in the school environment, birthday parties, and new or unknown experiences and situations. He was becoming a very worried child.
After starting his other therapies like OT and psychology, Austin’s mom found chiropractic to add to the team. After a thorough evaluation and consistent care, Austin was showing significant progress.
After a few months, his mother noticed fewer outbursts and he was able to use his own voice to express himself. In many situations, he experienced less anxiety—which was great as he took less time to adjust to new spaces or routines. His emotional regulation improved, and he has now graduated from OT and is working on higher level learning to continue his amazing growth.
Matty’s Family Reunion
It’s hard to imagine that not too long ago, Matty was completely nonverbal, and any transitions were a daunting challenge. The simple act of going somewhere or doing anything felt nearly impossible, and family outings were virtually nonexistent.
As a parent, this journey could often feel heartbreaking. Witnessing his frustration, feeling the helplessness, and seeing the impact on his siblings was undeniably tough. Before discovering chiropractic, it seemed like they were merely addressing symptoms, never quite reaching the root of the issue.
But change is possible! Matty’s transformation began subtly, sometimes making his family wonder if their hopes were just wishful thinking. But then, like a bolt of lightning, it happened: They could attend a baseball game as a family! Outings that were once impossible, even to sensory-friendly places, are now a reality. Every single day Matty is speaking more and attempting new words. Yes, there are still times of dysregulation, but they are becoming less frequent, and when they do arise, he bounces back and regains his composure in record time.
It wasn’t too long ago that Matty relied heavily on screen time, but now he craves real-life interactions with his family and the world around him. He has always possessed a joyful spirit, but it was hard for the world to witness that… But today, the world finally gets to see MATTY in all his glory, recognizing the boundless potential within him. Matty, we not only see you, but we also see the incredible person you are destined to become.
