Robbie Davis-Floyd, PhD

Robbie Davis-Floyd, Ph.D., is a senior research fellow with the Department of Anthropology at the University of Texas Austin, and a medical anthropologist specializing in the anthropology of reproduction. An international speaker and researcher, she has given more than 1,000 talks around the world in the past 20 years, is author of more than 80 articles, and author, co-author or co-editor of 12 books, including Birth as an American Rite of Passage (1992, 2003); Cyborg Babies: From Techno-Sex to Techno-Tots (1998); Mainstreaming Midwives: The Politics of Change (2006); Birth Models That Work (2009); Ways of Knowing about Birth: Mothers, Midwives, Medicine, and Birth Activism (2018); Birth in Eight Cultures (2019); and Birthing Models on the Human Rights Frontier: Speaking Truth to Power (forthcoming in 2020). She is also lead editor for the International Childbirth Initiative: 12 Steps to Safe and Respectful MotherBaby Maternity Care (found at internationalchildbirth.com).
