7 Habits of High Level Living
Everyone has a “to do” list. What we need to work on is our “to be” list. The following 7 habits, when actualized, will become a foundation for increased self-assurance, happiness and prosperity
1. Be Happy
Abraham Lincoln concluded that most people are “about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” The ability to choose actions that produce a good feeling throughout the body is a good indication of personal integrity and success.
Statistics indicate that people spend more money on toilet paper than they do on literature that will help them develop a positive outlook. We should associate upward: Read more positive and uplifting words and associate with people who give off what the Beach Boys called “good, good, good, good vibrations.”
Things we see produce strong mental images that stay with us and affect us in many ways—some more obvious than others. TV “news” represents, at best, a visual catalogue of disease, mayhem, accidents and war. Reduce the time spent watching the pabulum that is fed to us on “must-see TV.”
Learn how to live life with a high degree of balance, to have mental poise. It takes many more muscles to frown than it does to smile, and it also takes 10 positive thoughts to erase one negative thought. Health is happiness.
2. Become Goal Oriented
Have a goal. If we don’t have a goal, how will we know when we reach it? Can you imagine all those boys and girls out there on the soccer field playing their hearts out, knocking their heads together, if there were no goal to shoot the ball into?
Some people call the goal a dream. The indigenous people of Australia place special emphasis on the “Dreamtime.” Children revel in the use of their imaginations, but as we get older we seem to develop a serious case of “hardening of the attitudes.” This closing of our minds and calcification of our habits is a direct result of losing the ability to act out our lives as we would imagine them to be.
Everything is in motion; nothing stands still. We will move, either forward or backward. The question is, will we be kicked from behind or drawn from ahead? Pressure drives, but a dream draws.
The family that dreams together stays together, and grows together.
3. Have a Plan
Can you imagine a house being built without a plan? Planning allows growth in all aspects of our lifestyle. We may need to seek the assistance of someone to achieve our ends. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. What one person has done, so may another.
Repetition breeds habits, and habits turn into character traits. Our value systems are the foundations upon which we build our future.
Do something, and be consistent and persistent. Repetition is the key. With the increase in quantity, there comes about a sudden and dramatic change in quality.
5. Tune up you Engine
Take care of yourself—adjust your eight cylinders each and every day.
- Cylinder #1: Living Foods. Choose foods that produce healthy blood and tissue. Every animal lives and thrives in a state of health on a diet particular to its own structure and function. The human animal is no different.
- Cylinder #2: Air. Learn the art of rhythmic and diaphragmatic breathing in order to increase the efficiency of the lungs. Cylinder #3: Sunlight. Use the power of sunlight (not sun heat) to recharge the vitality of a flagging nervous system.
- Cylinder #4: Water. Water is the only liquid that the body needs in order to transport vital elements to the tissues and carry waste matter away. Water that goes into the body should be pure, vitalized or energized by the sun’s radiations, and oxygenated to ensure that there is a “life-force” contained within. The best source of pure water comes from organically grown fruits and vegetables. The human diet should be composed of a high quantity of raw fruit and vegetables. This will reduce any need to drink in excess of your needs.
- Cylinder #5: Exercise and movement. Become more childlike in movement. Dance and skip, bend and twist, and stretch and relax as many parts of your body as is comfortable. Then find a few more positions, and add small amounts of tension and relaxation. Walking and swimming are two of the best exercises for the body. Combined with deep rhythmical and diaphragmatic breathing, these will ensure that your body stays supple and flexible—helping your joints and circulatory system maintain their normal efficiency.
- Cylinder #6: Rest and relaxation. Learn how to grab the “One Minute Reviver”—whether at work, at home or waiting in the checkout line. Wherever you might find yourself with a minute to kill, learn how to close your eyes, regulate your breathing, assume a relaxed posture and imagine the best circumstances happening in your life. Some people like to count to ten as a form of adjusting their pace. Whatever technique you use, find one and learn how to use it so that you can adjust your vibrational rate quickly.
- Cylinder #7: Attitude. Learn how to change a negative attitude into a positive one as quickly as possible. Our journey through life is always accompanied by the luggage of our attitudes. Learn how to travel with ease and efficiency. If your emotional states indicate tension, act differently. We can act ourselves into different states of emotional being as well, by applying positive thinking.
- Cylinder #8: Spinal care. Learn how to align and support your spine through the proper function of the physical body. Be conscious of posture and body movements to support spinal alignment. Obstructions to the normal flow of blood, lymph and nerve force that are not resolved become states of dis-ease. Rather than waiting for symptoms, get your spine adjusted regularly.
Nature abhors a vacuum. The more we give, the more we get. That’s the law of reciprocity. The thing is, we never know when or where it’s going to bounce back from. Oftentimes we deposit in one location, only to withdraw from another. Make a point to say something nice to six people each day. Do it for a week, and it will become a habit. The customer is always right…so treat everyone like a customer.
Many people feel guilty about receiving. Learn the art of saying “thank you.” That is sufficient within itself. Be prepared—we get what we deserve. To ensure that our rewards are in accordance with our efforts, we only need to put our values and principles in order.
