Chiropractic for Optimal Function
Chiropractors work with the vital connection between the spine and nervous system. When working correctly, the nervous system provides our bodies with the optimal capacity for function, perception, and adaptation.
When trauma adversely shifts the spine, the tone of the nervous system is disrupted. The brain and nervous system are no longer making all the necessary connections efficiently or effectively. This can obstruct normal development and function on all levels: physical, emotional, mental, and social.
The chiropractic adjustment reduces these adverse stressors to the nervous system, restoring optimal performance for all life expressions.
Parents Seeking Solutions
Based on the best available evidence, parents want chiropractic care for their children. In the late 1990s, an average of 30 million pediatric visits were made to chiropractors. A follow-up study in 2010 estimated 89 million visits annually.
—The Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine
Chiropractic has been shown to be the most popular Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) choice for children. Parents sought out chiropractic to address back or neck pain, head or chest colds, anxiety or stress, other musculoskeletal problems, and ADHD/ADD.
—National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS)
Parents choose alternative therapies for their children because of word of mouth, fear of drug side effects, chronic medical problems, and, to a certain extent, dissatisfaction with conventional medicine.

Chiropractic Care for Children: Safe, Gentle, Effective
Chiropractic safety studies in children show it is safe. In one study, totaling more than 5,000 pediatric visits, there were no reports of complications. The most common improvements seen were decreased pain, increased disposition, and increased immune function.
In this same study, almost half of the parents surveyed sought “wellness care,” which means there were no existing complaints or symptoms in the children and the parents were seeking care to optimize the child’s health and well-being.
Care for symptomatic relief included musculoskeletal pain; ear, nose, and throat problems; neurological problems; colic; constipation and bedwetting; asthma and allergies; and birth trauma. Also, it is important to note that improvements were seen in other areas of the body unrelated to the initial reason for care.
