Beyond Babywearing: The Continuum Concept
By Anne Christina Michelsen
The three main principles of The Continuum Concept: 1. Profound trust in the child; 2. The child is not the center of attention; 3. Interaction between people of many different ages.
In Continuum societies, adults are available to the child as needed, but focused primarily on their own activities, not on their role as parents. Tribe-building involves much more than just scheduling regular play dates. You have to spend a lot of time together, and it’s important that it not just be all “visiting time.”
